Our Moment in Time to Celebrate Thursday, April 19, 2018 at High Noon New Bethel Baptist Church 7300 South Freeway ~ Fort Worth, Texas Pastor Michael J. Moore, Eulogist. A Time To Be Born... Alice Mitchell, born in St. Martinville, LA, April 1st, 1925 to proud parents, Philip Mitchell and Claudia Lee Arceneaux, the 1st of three daughters. Her hard working mother Claudia Arceneaux raised Alice, along with her two sisters in St. Martinville, LA. At the age of 8 years old she moved to New Orleans with her stepmother,  Evelyn “Nan” Mitchell and her father, Philip “Big Daddy” Mitchell with her stepbrother Philip Mitchell, Jr and stepsisters Patricia and Ethel lovingly raised her. A Time To Cherish… She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord and in the early 1950’s,  she became a devout parishioner at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.  She loved her St. Philip family.  It was in Fort Worth Texas where she joined New Bethel. She really loved her New Bethel family and earned the title of Mother of the Church better known as Mother Grant.  She attended services as much as her health allowed and crocheted baby coverlets for all the newborns.  A Time To Love… At the age of 16, Alice was united in marriage to Earl Grant. Of that union, six children were born and raised in a loving and happy home. A mother who gave to all her children love, encouragement, the love of Christ and the wisdom to have a better life than she. After living in New Orleans and the Desire Projects and then Clouet Street for many years, she relocated to Fort Worth Texas after Hurricane Katrina. As her health declined, she relocated to Spring TX in February where she resided with her daughter Brenda and son-in-law Chip. As a young woman, she started her working career in a shrimp factory followed by working in a furniture factory. She later changed and became a domestic engineer. Her last position   before retirement was a private sitter at Lutheran Nursing Home.  She retired early to care for her aging mother. She could light up any room with her smile. She was a always encouraging and made it a point to try and lift you up if you seemed down. Her beautiful spirit will be dearly missed. Moma, Grandma Alice, Maw-Maw Alice...was loved by everyone! A Time To Mourn... Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you and where I go, you may go also”. John 14:3 On April 9, 2018,  Alice Grant entered a prepared place for a prepared people. She entered the Gates of Heaven where she has cast her crown at Jesus’ feet. Her life on earth and surely beyond, is so well declared in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, “she fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith, now there will be in store for her a crown of righteousness.
