Ervin Reeves

Ervin Reeves was a man who lived his remarkable life every day in accord with his favorite passage, "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalms 118). On Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at the blessed age of 75, he was called into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Celebration of life: 1 p.m. Saturday at Sweet Home Baptist Church, 5525 Ramey Ave., Pastor Brown. Visitation: noon to 5 p.m. Friday in Jimerson Chapel of Serenity Funerals & Cremations, with wake 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sweet Home Baptist Church. Ervin Wesley Reeves was born to the late Samuel Reeves, Jr. and Amanda Pope, on July 25, 1939, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was reared in the Stop-Six area of Fort Worth, in which he was always very proud of; he called it “Stop-Six” Texas. Ervin attended Dunbar Elementary and Junior High. He also attended Dunbar High School for two years then he moved Los Angeles, California and graduated from Manuel Arts High School with the Class of 1957. He attended San Jose College for three semesters. In November 1959, Ervin joined the U.S. Navy. His first duty was Alameda Naval Air Station, Alameda, CA. From there he went to Yokosuka, Japan where he spent three years at the Head Quarters Support Activity Naval Station; upon completion of his enlistment he returned to Los Angeles, CA and was employed by Chrysler Auto Assembly; and later McDonald Douglas Air Craft Assembly, in Long Beach, CA. In December 1965, Ervin returned to his home town, Fort Worth. There he began employment at General Dynamics until 1969, at which time he became employed by the United States Postal Service, in Arlington, TX where he remained until his retirement in September in 1997. Ervin served as a member of the Executive Board of the Arlington Federal Postal Credit Union for 13 years and was also a Loan Executive. Additionally, Ervin headed the United WAY for the Arlington Post Office for nine years. In 1970, Ervin met a “little brown skinned South Texas girl” named Ella Warfield. After a brief courtship he asked her to be his wife. They were married June 26, 1971; they were blessed with two sons, Fredd Broadnax Adams, II and Samuel Reeves III. The family joined Saint Matthews Baptist Church under the ministry of Rev. Troy W. Pope, who baptized Ervin. In later years, the family joined Mayfield Baptist Church under the ministry of Dr. R. V. Jones, where Ervin served in the Maintenance Ministry, sung in the choir and the Male Chorus and was a member of the Sunday school.  In 2012, Ervin and Ella moved their membership to Sweet Home Baptist Church. Ervin was a member of the Brotherhood, sung in the Choir, and a regular student in Bible study. Ervin and Ella grew spiritually by leaps and bounds at Sweet Home under Pastor Brown’s teaching. Ervin was preceded in death by his mother, Amanda Pope Taylor, his father, Samuel Reeves, Jr. and a son, Samuel Reeves, III, sister, Vernita Harris and a brother, Earnest E. Miller. He leaves to cherish fond and treasured memories, wife, Ella Warfield Reeves, a son, Rev. Dr. Fredd B. Adams, II (Angela); a sister Myrlene Reeves; brother, Oswald Reeves (Pamela), sisters in law; Erma Rolling, Linda Harris (Wayland, Jr.); brothers in law, Wayland Harris,Sr., Keith L. Warfield, Timothy A. Warfield; aunts; Marjorie Brown (Elbert), Junioree Price, Floyzell Nickleberry; uncles; Phillip Reeves (Mercedes), Marion E. Warfield (Verna), grandchildren, Alexandria K. Reeves, Raven E. Adams, Ameerah Howard, Ashton T. Adams, Chazz M. Adams and Ethan Z. Adams; countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
