Murphy Griffin

Murphy “Butch” Carl Griffin, Sr., was born January 17, 1948, in New Orleans, LA to the late Rev. Dr. Percy Murphy Griffin and the late Mrs. Irene Marie Williams Griffin.  Murphy was the eldest of ten children born to this    union.  He was educated in the  public schools of Plaquemines Parish and graduated from Phoenix High School, May 1968.  Murphy also attended      Delgado Community College where he studied Mortuary Science. Murphy was reared in a God-fearing home with strong Christian values, confessing Christ as his Lord and Savior at the young age of 15. He was baptized in October 1963 along with his brothers Percy “P.V.”, Rommel and Roland by their father, the late Rev. Dr. Percy Murphy Griffin under the leadership of the late Rev. Joseph   Simeon in the traditional riverside baptismal service. He  prided himself on his appearance; always starched and neatly dressed.  Growing up, he made sure his younger brothers were always taken care of and looked after his mother when his daddy was away from the house. Murphy was the apple of his grandmother, Victoria’s eye. In March of 1969, Murphy was drafted into the United States Army.  He served his country proudly for three years.  During his military career he completed an eighteen month tour of duty during the Vietnam conflict.  Murphy completed his military service with the rank of E-4.  He was a decorated veteran and honorably discharged from military service.  Murphy was formerly united in holy matrimony to Carolyn Hampton in 1973.  To this union four children were born, Trinell, Murphy Carl, Jr., Robin W. and Percy Griffin. On April 18, 1992, Murphy married Linda Wallace Griffin.  They were blessed with a daughter, Patricia Danielle Griffin. Murphy was a former employee of Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office, Bakers-Butlers-Burt’s Shoe Store, Standard Life Insurance Company and Plaquemines Parish Government EMS Service. He was an entrepreneur   starting his own business in 1992. He and his wife Linda owned and operated L&M Phlebotomy Service. He dedicated himself to his work until he relocated to Fort Worth, TX in 2005,   due to Hurricane Katrina, where he eventually retired. On Thursday, May 14, 2015, “Butch” peacefully transitioned from this life.  He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife Linda; children Trinell (Malvarn, III) Newsome, Murphy, Jr., Robin W., Percy (Dana) and Patricia Griffin, ten grandchildren, Dillon Caleb Thomas, Mur’quell Jackson, Robin Richard Williams, Madison Alexis, Kiara, Percy, Jr., Kelcey, Jordan, Jalen, Juelz, and Pariz Griffin,  Taviyon Amari Griffin-Tennison and Jaymon Lee Griffin-Newton; siblings, Percy “P.V.” (Wanda) of Phoenix, La; Rev. On last Thursday, Butch’s numbers finally came in, “1-1-1”, One for the  Father, One for the Son and One for the Holy Spirit.  Sleep on dear brother and take your rest.  You were the first born and now the first gone.  We will see you again in that GREAT gettin’ up morning!!!
