Othella Smith, 93 years of age and among the last students to have attended Wortham Negroe High School closed up her hymn book and Bible to study war no more on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at a local hospital. Visitation for Mrs. Smith will be Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 2 PM to 8 PM with the family present from 7 PM to 8 PM at the Clarence Jimerson Chapel of Serenity Funerals and Cremations. The Homegoing Celebration will commence at high noon Friday September 29, 2017 at Highland Park Baptist Church, 1317 Baltimore Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas, 76104. Pastor Michael Matthews, Most Gracious Host. Her son, Reverend Charles E. Smith, Eulogist. Interment, Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Mother Smith was born in Wortham, Texas on August 20, 1924 to Ebb Henson and Myrtle Carr. She was the widow of the late Maurice Smith and mother of eight children; two of which preceded her in death. Mother Smith was a former active member of the Order of Eastern Star and she was as one of Highland Park's eldest members an addressed as one of the Mothers of the church. She was fond of beautiful hats, quilting and working with her hands. She was employed in life as an Environmental Services Technician at the Home for unwed Mothers. Those left behind to cherish her memories are the progeny: Maurine Jinks (Troy), Maurice Smith, Jr. (Marie), Reverend Charles E. Smith (Gloria), Hattie E. Lewis (Londell), Phillip E. Smith (Vivian), Alvin Smith and many other adopted sons and daughters; Brothers: Marshall Henson, Hence Henson, Phillip Henson and Pastor Anthony Bernard (A.B.) Henson; Sisters: Alma Barge and Eleanor Smith; 26 grandchildren and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
