Life of JE Grandberry
Reverend Jewell Edward Grandberry, the son of the late Joe and Fannie Mae Grandberry was born April 11th, 1937, in the little town of Aspermont, Texas.
A few years rolled on and the family moved to Abilene, Texas. There he attended public school.
Early Life
Jewel Grandberry answered the call to preach the gospel and attended Bishop College in Marshall Texas. In April of 1955, he answered his country’s call to duty in serve in the military service, where he joined the United States Navy. He served faithfully from 1954 to 1958 and upon completion of his enlistment, he transitioned to the reserves from 1958 until 1962.
On May 7th, 1962, he married the love of his life, the late Elsa Sue Grandberry and into this union, five children were added. A love so special, that they were inseparable until death do us apart.
Rev. JE Grandberry joined the First St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor LB. Moss. Where he served faithfully for many years preaching and teaching the Sunday school teachers.
Rev. JE Grandberry was a strong advocate for studying God’s word, he strongly believed and followed 2 Tim. 2:15; “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Under the leadership of Pastor Montgomery, JE Grandberry and family joined the Morningside Baptist church. With a passion so great in leadership, he accepted the call, to pastor at Morningside Baptist Church and was installed in 1980 and served for several years.
Committed to continue his journey, Pastor JE Grandberry organized and build the foundation of the New Light Baptist Church and pastored there for 5 years. He then later transitioned to the Forest Hill Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor AA Jackson. After several years of service, there was a burning desire within, to move his family, to unite with his son, Pastor K.C. Grandberry, Sr. of Mount Carmel Baptist Church (The Mountain Church).
Pastor JE Grandberry was a God sent preacher and teacher, who stood boldly in what he believed. His legacy of service, dedication to God and to the church will always be remembered.
Pastor JE Grandberry was not only a man of God but also a dedicated, hard worker. He worked with Ordinance Parts Inc. from 1965 to 1980 and then transitioned to Lockheed Martin in 1980 until his retirement in 2014.
His genuine love for God’s people drew many into his circle, captivating them with his oh so familiar phrase, when asked how he was doing, “Simply Marvelous”.
He was proceeded in death by both parents, grandparents, 12 siblings, and his loving wife, Elsa Sue Grandberry. Rev. JE Grandberry leaves to mourn five children, Esterlita Bell, Lionell (LaRae) Grandberry, Pastor Kermit (Cynthia) Grandberry, Sr., Jewell Grandberry, Eloise (Kendell) Chambers, 1 brother in law, Charlie Christopher, 1 sister in law, Pearl Grandberry, 14 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and members of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
