Thelma Sutton

Thelma Ward Sutton was born on July 24, 1931 in New Orleans, La. She moved to Texas with her daughters after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She departed from this life on February 6, 2014 in McKinney, TX.  Thelma, the oldest daughter of the late Joseph Ward, Sr. and Mary Anderson, is survived by her brother,  Edward Ward (Carol) and sister, Juanita Robinson.  She is also the sister to the late Frank Norris and Joseph Ward, Jr. The union of Thelma Ward and Willie Sutton, Jr.,  was blessed with six children, Sharon Sutton Tadlock, Darryel Sutton, Sr. (Dana), Rosalind Sutton Wheeler, Ronald Sutton, Yvette Sutton and the Late Tyrone Sutton. Thelma has seven grandchildren (Nikki, Kenneth, Jr., Darryel, Jr., Kimberly, Devon, Darren, and Katlyn) and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.Thelma retired from Total Community Action Head Start Program after many years of service. She was a member of the Head Start Singing Angels. Her Spiritual life started with Holy Ghost Church as a child, to St. Paul, then Maria Goretti and St. Mark in Texas. Thelma will be deeply missed but will live on in our hearts.   Thelma departed life on February 6, 2014 in McKinney, TX.  Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend services on February 19, 2014 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 7300 Crowder Blvd., New Orleans, LA. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m,, funeral Mass at 11 a.m, with interment to follow at Providence Memorial Park & Mausoleum, 8200 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA.
