William Carathers

William Carathers

William Carathers was born to Ollie and Maggie Carathers in Bastrop County on October 17, 1927. He was the seventh born of fourteen children. He resided in Austin the majority of his adulthood. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a God-fearing man.

"And a time to learn and teach"
On March 19, 1948, he married Fannie Lee Jones. Together they had nine children. He was a dedicated employee of the City of Austin until he relocated to Fort Worth in 1970. He continued his profession with the City of Fort Worth Water Department. He retired after over 20 years of service.

William loved listening to musical blues, playing pool and fishing. He loved beating other in dominos. He enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan.

"And a time to die"
We shall behold Him, face to face, in all of His glory. On Thursday, February 2, 2017, William "Doc" Carathers, Sr. fell asleep in the Lord. Those who have gone on before him are his parents; Ollie & Maggie Carathers, nine brothers, two sisters; two sons, David Carathers Sr. and William Carathers II; and one daughter, Sandra Carathers and his wife, Fannie Carathers.

"I will not leave you comfortless".
Left to cherish his memory: two brothers: Vernon Carathers (Marion) and David Carathers all of Austin, Texas; one son: James Carathers Sr. (Loreen); five daughters: Almeta Parker (Oratious) of Killeen, Texas; Gwendolyn Brown; Kaye Brewer (Charles); Linda Scott (Larry); and Berna Bell (Steve) all of Fort Worth; Special friend: Mary Whitlow (Son, James), long with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, family and friends.
