Darrell Simpson

One of God’s finest miracles was given to the late Robert Lee. Simpson and Mae Simpson on January 7, 1969 in Huntsville, Texas. He is one of seven children out of eight siblings. He moved to Port Arthur Texas (raised by the late Daniel Keys Sr. and Annie Mae Keys) at an early age and attended elementary, intermediate school and then graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Those who knew and loved him affectionately called him “Chic” or “Papa Keys”. He went on to attend Job Corp in Guthrie, Oklahoma and then went to Langston University and majored in Technology. While at Langston he was well known as the Snack Bar Guru. He would feed any and every one who came in, and did not disappoint. He then met his wife Carrie Cooks-Simpson while attending Langston University. They moved to Stillwater in 1999 and to this union, two children were born, Kiarra Annette, Darrell Simpson II and his son Cody Franklin. The marriage lasted for 25 years, until he was called home. He worked for Mercury Marine during his stint in Stillwater until 2001. He became member of the Masonic Pride of Stillwater Lodge #238 and was a 32nd Mason.

He then moved to Texas with his family to be closer to his extended family. He attended St. John Baptist Church in Southlake, TX with his family. He began working at Composite Technology- Lockheed Martin. He was very passionate about his job, and training employees who came in after him. He was always known as a hard worker.

Darrell enjoyed the outdoors, playing basketball, and spending time with his family and friends. He loved to have friends over to show off his Bar-B-Q skills. He was a dedicated father to his children traveling to track meets, coaching Pee Wee football, AAU basketball games, and many more events involving his children. He most importantly enjoyed all the college recruiting visits to make sure his children continued their education and athletic dreams. There was nothing more that he enjoyed then taking care of his family. Darrell will be remembered by his infectious smile and caring spirit. He never met a stranger and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.

With his wife and great support surrounding him. Darrell went home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2020. Darrell was released of his pain and suffering from his long journey with Brain Cancer and made his final transition to be with the Lord. Chic’s presence will be missed but never forgotten by those who loved him.

His legacy will live on through his daughter Kiarra Annette and son’s Darrell Simpson II and Cody Franklin.

Proceeding his home going is his father Robert Lee Simpson, mother Mae Simpson, Daniel Keys Sr. and Annie Mae Keys, Daniel Keys Jr.

He is survived by his wife Carrie, and three children, Kiarra Annette, Darrell Simpson II and Cody Franklin, and his brothers Willie Foster, Robert Lee Simpson Jr., and his sisters Ivory Simpson, Robbie Lee Simpson-Waters, Gloria Simpson, and Sheila Simpson. Host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss that infectious smile.
